Steel Band |

Once upon a time ( all the good stories start like that don't they!), back in early 1992, Gina Sheridan and Paula Gilford shared a dream; they wanted to learn to play a steel pan! Well, we've all got a dream like that haven't we............. Haven't we ????
Anyway, Gina and Paula who between them have got a fair amount of determination decided to do something about it and so they joined an adult education course and began to learn how to "play pan". After three weeks they had a tune..... and so things progressed, slowly but surely.
By June 1992, the girls began to think seriously about forming their own band and following a series of small ads, attracted a number of like minded enthusiasts.
And so, The Comets Steel Band, Gina and Paula's dream, became a reality.

Things have come a long way since the early days, and today, we comprise a skilled and highly professional eleven piece band. Our repertoire is wide ranging and covers the Classics, Pop and Jazz as well as traditional Calypso music. And the sound?...... Irresistible Musical Sunshine! The Band plays regularly in Croydon and Epsom and is in great demand to play at weddings, anniversaries, birthdays, school fetes, corporate events..... the list goes on. And, having toured in Barbados twice, in 1998 and 2000, we can truly say that we have sold coals to Newcastle (or was that Calypso to the Caribbean?) So, if you would like to sample our music, please do visit the Sound Bites page of our web site, or even come and play for you. Our very best wishes to you from,
The Comets
